What is the Intersection of Value?

Welcome to the inaugural Intersection of Value™ blog where I explain what it is and what to expect in subsequent editions. Based on my extensive healthcare experience I have been homing in on what providers, suppliers, payers, executives, physicians, nurses, technicians, analysts, patients, consumers, academia, professional organizations and thought leaders need to do today to approach the intersection of value. That sweet spot where the best care and the least cost meet. Intersections are where relationships occur, the next big idea hatched, the edge of anything meets the edge of something else. It is at those edges that environments are found that were there all the time. As a college junior I recall an ecology field trip to the rocky California coast having to leave so that our arrival coincided with low tide. Over the next hours spent tramping at the edge of icy cold tide pools an environment opened before us that if we had arrived earlier or later, we would have never known existed. It is those types of intersections that we elicit those aha moments, those victories at the end of a trail when we see the vast valley before us, the eclipse of the sun or moon or when we shake someone’s hand or greet an old friend. Each blog will explore what has gone on since the last one and how each healthcare industry sector is moving closer to or farther away from the intersection of value.
